How to edit the purchase suggestions form

It is possible to allow patrons to make purchase suggestions from the OPAC with the use of a purchase suggestion form. For instructions on checking if the purchase suggestion option is available on your site, please check our Help CentreThis document will outline how to customise the fields that appear in the purchase suggestion for on the OPAC.

Step 1 - Navigate to the system preference

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for Opacsuggestion.

This will bring up two system preferences related to customising the appearance of the form: OPACSuggestionMandatoryFields and OPACSugestionUnwantedFields.

Overview of OPACSuggestionMandatoryFields

OPACSuggestionMandatoryFields allows staff members to define which fields on the suggestion form must be filled out for the form to save and the request to be submitted.

The Title field will be mandatory by default, but this can be edited through the system preference. Click the grey box within the system preference and a dropdown of the fields which can be edited will appear.

Tick the boxes to the left hand side of the fields to be mandatory on the form and click the Save all OPAC preferences button.

It is possible to mark no fields as mandatory, however, this means that a blank form, with no information recorded, could be saved.

Overview of OPACSuggestionUnwantedFields

OPACSuggestionUnwantedFields allows staff members to remove fields from the purchase suggestion form.

Click the grey box within the system preference and a dropdown menu of the fields which can be set to appear or disappear from the form will available.

Tick the boxes to the left hand side of the fields to be removed from the form and click the Save all OPAC preferences button.

Examples

This image below shows how the purchase suggestion form is appearing on the OPAC before the OPACSuggestionMandatoryFields and the OPACSuggestionUnwantedFields system preferences are edited:

The OPACSuggestionMandatoryFields system preference is edited to make the Author and Publisher name fields mandatory.

This results is the purchase suggestion form appearing differently on the OPAC, with the defined fields now marked in red and labelled as Required.

When the OPACSuggestionUnwantedFields system preference is edited so the Collection title, Copyright or publication date and Library or branch fields are set to be removed from the form, the identified fields disappear from the form but the fields marked as mandatory remain.
