How to allow patrons to suspend holds from the OPAC
This document will outline how to enable the option for patrons to suspend their own holds from the OPAC. This means a hold will not be deleted, but it will not be taken account of by the system while it is suspended. A patron can then choose to remove the suspension and have the hold placed back into the holds queue to be filled.
For more details about how patrons can place holds on the OPAC, please check out
Help CentreEnabling the suspend holds feature
Go to Koha administration > Global system preference and search for SuspendHoldsOpac.
This will bring up a system preference of the same name.
Set this to Allow Holds to be suspened from the OPAC and click the Save all Circulation preferences.
Suspending a hold
If the SuspendHoldsOpac system preference is enabled, after a patron places a hold on the OPAC they will have the option of temporarily removing their hold from the hold list.
The hold won't be fully cancelled, but it won't appear to staff to be filled until the suspension is manually lifted by the patron or the hold is automatically resumed based on the rules in the auto_unsuspend_holds.pl cronjob
For more information about the auto_unsuspend_holds.pl cronjob or to check if it is set up to run on your site, please contact
Interleaf Technology directly.
A pop-up box will appear to confirm the hold(s) should be suspended. Click Yes, suspend all holds.
The status on the hold will change to Suspended.
Resuming a hold
To resume the suspended hold(s), click the Resume all suspended holds button.
This will cause a pop-up box to appear, to confirm the holds should be resumed.
Click Yes, resume all holds to resume the holds. Click No, do not resume holds to keep the holds suspended.
When a hold is resumed, it will be added back into the holds queue so staff can see it and fill it.
