How patrons can place a note on a hold from the OPAC

This document will outline how to allow patrons to add a note to a hold that they place from the OPAC.
For more details about how patrons can place holds on the OPAC, please check our Help Centre.

Enabling the feature

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for OpacHoldNotes.

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

Set this to Allow patrons to add a note when placing a hold and click Save all OPAC preferences.

On the OPAC side

When placing a hold, there will be a blank box where the patron can add a note.

Click Show more options.

This will drop out various options for interacting with the hold being placed. Depending on the setup on your specific site, the options will vary. The option for adding a note to the hold will be labelled Hold notes: and will be an empty freetext box.

A note can be added to this box before clicking the Confirm hold button to complete placing the hold.

On the staff side

When a staff member checks the hold on the staff side the note will appear in the holds report.

And under the holds details on the record itself.
