How to add a report of the most checked out items to the OPAC

This document will outline how to enable a report on the OPAC for the most commonly checked out titles. This feature will be available if the patron is logged in or not, but there will be some slight differences in results based on the branch the patron is logged into.

Please note, this feature can be resource intensive if the catalogue is very large, so please consult with Interleaf Technology before enabling this option.

How to enable the report option

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for OpacTopIssue.

A system preference of the same name will come up.

To enable the report on the OPAC, set this system preference to Allow patrons to access a list of the most checked out items on the OPAC. Click Save all OPAC preferences.

How will the report appear on the OPAC site?

On the OPAC homepage, a link to the report will appear across the top of the page, called Most popular.

Click this link to open a new page which will show the 10 most popular, or most checked out items in the past few months.

If the patron is logged in, this will default to the results only in their own branch.

If the patron is not logged in, this will default to results from all branches.

Although the report runs automatically when the link is clicked there will be an option on the left hand side of the screen to refine the search results and run the report again.

Show the top

This allows the patron to define how many titles should appear in the results, i.e top 10, top 20 etc. Please be aware that this option can make the report resource intensive.

If there are only 10 or fewer checkouts in a branch, no matter how high the number of titles is set in this option the site will not return more than have been checked out.

From

This option allows the patron to define the branch the titles have been checked out from. There is an All libraries option, which will cause the report to search all branches on the site. Please be aware that this option can make the report resource intensive.

Limit to

This option allows the patron to define the item type of checkouts to search. This will search all item types by default, but will contain a dropdown menu, where patrons can define items within a specific item type to search.

For more information on item types, please check our Help Centre

Limit to

This option allows the patron to define the collection of checkouts to search. This will search all  collections by default but will contain a dropdown menu, where patrons can define a specific collection to search.

Acquired in the last

This option allows the patron to define the timeframe for when the titles being searched were added to the catalogue. It is possible to set this to No limit, so all titles added at any time to the catalogue will be searched. Please be aware that this option can make the report resource intensive.
