How to allow on the shelf holds

This document will outline the options for on shelf holds on the OPAC. This function is used to determine if it is possible for a patron to place a hold when all items on a record are available or if holds should only be possible if all items on a record are checked out.

Fine and circulation rules

Go to Koha administration > Patrons and Circulation > Circulation and fines rules.

This will open a new page with a table of fine and circulation rules.

Scroll across to the right hand side to the column On shelf holds allowed.

The options in the column are:

Yes

This will allow patrons to place holds on records where items are not checked out and are marked as available. Patrons will still be able to place holds if some or all the items are checked out.

If any unavailable

This will only allow patrons to place holds on a record if one or more of the items are checked out. If all items are available on the shelf, it will not be possible to place a hold.

If all unavailable

This will prevent patrons from placing holds if there are any items on the shelf. It will only be possible to place a hold if all the items on a record is checked out.
