How to display a musical score on a record on the OPAC

This document will outline how allow a section of a musical score to appear on the OPAC for bibliographic records that have musical details recorded in the 031 fields. Using this feature depends on working with a framework that includes 031 fields and setting a system preference.
Go to Koha administration > Catalog > MARC bibliographic framework.

This will take you to a page with a table of the frameworks available on your site.

The framework with Default framework in the Description column and a blank field in the Code column is the Default framework. This Default framework should never be edited.
If you require more assistance with editing frameworks, please contact Interleaf Technology with a Changes to Framework form filled out.
Please note that the Default framework should never be edited.

Edit the framework

Identify the framework from the table to be edited to include the 031 fields and click the Actions button to the right hand side of the line the framework is on. This will create a dropdown menu. Select MARC structure from this dropdown menu.

This will bring up a page with a table of the fields in the framework.

Across the top of the table there will be a search box, which can be used to limit the table to a specific field.

Use this search box to narrow the table down to the 031 field.

Once the table has been reduced to the specific field to be edited, click the Actions button to the right hand side of the line the tag is on. This will create a dropdown menu. Select Edit subfields from this menu.

This will open a new page where the subfields that make up the tag appear. The subfields will be split into different tabs, based on the alphabetic and numeric representation.

The fields that should be enabled are:

2 - System Code

For defining how the music has been encoded in field $p.

g - Clef

For defining the clef is the musical score uses.

n - Key signature

For defining the key signature the musical score uses.

u - Uniform Resource Identifier

For defining a link to a recording of the full musical score.
For more details on how to use these fields in practice, please check the Library of Congress guide:
On each of the identified fields, go to the Advanced constraints section.

On the Visibility line, make sure the Editor option is ticked.

Click Save changes.

Setting the system preference

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for OPACShowMusicalInscripts.

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

Set this system preference to Show musical inscripts on the OPAC record details page and click the Save all OPAC preferences button.

Filling in a record with the edited framework

Using the framework the 031 fields were added to previously, create or edit a new bibliographic record. Navigate to the 031 fields.
For more details about the cataloguing process itself, please contact Interleaf Technology directly.

For the best results, fill in all the present fields. Below is an example of a record will all fields filled out.

Display on the OPAC
