How to prevent holds on the OPAC if the patron owes more than a defined amount in fines

This document will outline how to prevent patrons from placing holds on the OPAC if they owe more than a certain amount in fines.
For more details about how patrons can place holds on the OPAC, please check our Help Centre.

Setting the system preference

Go to Koha administration > Global System preferences and search for maxoutstanding.

A system preference of the same name will appear.

This system preference contains a blank box where the amount a patron can owe before they will be prevented from placing hold.

Set the system preference to Prevent patrons from making holds on the OPAC if they owe more than X EUR in fines, where X is the amount a patron can owe in fines before they will be prevented from placing hold. For example, if a patron can owe €5 and any more than that after that point they will no longer be able to place holds, the system preference should read Prevent patrons from making holds on the OPAC if they owe more than €5 EUR in fines

Click Save all Circulation preferences.

On the OPAC side

If a patron owes more than the amount defined in the maxoutstanding system preference and tries to place a hold on the OPAC this message will appear.

Please note, if the AllowHoldPolicyOverride system preference is enabled, staff members will be able to place holds for patrons that are suspended from holds on the OPAC, on the staff side. For more details on this, please contact Interleaf Technology directly.
