This document will outline how to prevent patrons from renewing their items on the OPAC if they owe more than a certain amount in fines.
For more information on enabling renewals on the OPAC, please check our Help Centre. How to set the function
Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for OPACFineNoRenewals.
This will bring up several system preferences with similar names.
Use the OPACFineNoRenewals system preference to define how much a patron should can owe in fines before the account will be prevented from renewing on the OPAC.
The system preference is structured as Only allow patrons to renew their own books on the OPAC if they have less than X EUR in fines, where X is the amount at which a patron won't be able to renew their items from the OPAC. Input the amount at which a patron account will be prevented from renewing their items on the OPAC and click Save all OPAC preferences.
Renewals on the site can be completed manually or through an automatic process that does not require intervention from staff or patrons, instead the items will renew by themselves before they go overdue. For more information on automatic renewals, please check out Help Centre.
To prevent items from autorenewing on a patron account if they owe a certain amount in fines, set the system preference OPACFineNoRenewalsBlockAutoRenew to If a patron owes more than the value of OPACFineNoRenewals don't allow their autorenewals. This will mean if automatic renewals are enabled on the site they will not work if the patron owes the amount defined in OPACFineNoRenewals system preference.
If this system preference is set to If a patron owes more than the value of OPACFineNoRenewals allow their autorenewals, then patrons won't be able to manually renew their items, but the automatic renewals will still take place.
Appearance on the OPAC
When a patron is logged in on the OPAC, they can view a summary of their account, which includes items they have checked out.
In this summary area, it is possible for patrons to renew the items on their account, if that feature has been enabled and the checked out items have renewals enabled through the fine and circulation rules. When the patron does not owe the defined fines, the renewals feature will appear in the Renew column.
If the patron owes the defined amount or more, the renewals feature will be disabled and a note will appear on the patron summary page.
