This document will outline how to check and edit a patron's username.
What is the function of a username on Koha?
Every patron account created on Koha will have username and password. Usernames and passwords are either assigned by the staff member creating the accounts or the system automatically generates them. Patrons can use this information to log into the OPAC if that functionality has been enabled and to log into the staff side if they have been assigned the correct patron permissions. For more details about patron permissions, please check our Help Centre.
Password information is encrypted once it is assigned, so if a patron does not already know their password a new one will need to be created. For more details about changing a patron's password, please check out Help Centre. How to view the username on the patron account
To see the username on a patron account, use the context sensitive search box at the top of the Koha homepage to find the patron who's information is to be checked.
This will bring up the Details tab of the patron account.
On the right hand side of the screen there will be a section called Library Use. In this area there will be a line called Username, where you can see the username for the patron.
How to edit the username on the patron account
To edit the username, click Edit button at the top left hand side of the page.
This will open a new page where details on the patron account can be edited.
Go to the OPAC/Staff interface login section and change the username in the Username field and click Save.
Please note that if the username already exists on the site, it will not be possible to save and a unique username will need to be created.
