How to define the borrower relationship between guarantor and guarantee

It is possible to set a predefined list of patron relationships that can be applied to patrons with a guarantor/guarnatee relationship.

How to enable the system preference

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for borrowerrelationship.

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

This system preference allows different labels to be created, to indicate the type of relation the guarantor and guarnatee have. For example, mother, father, guardian, teacher.

This system preference contains a blank box where the pharases to describe the relationship between the guarantor and guarantee can be added.

The description(s) can be whatever the library requires. If there are multiple entries in this box, the different options should be separated by a pipe: |. 

Click Save all Patrons preferences

Please be aware that once this feature is enabled, it will be madnatory to define the relationship for the guarantor/guarantee.

How to set the relationship on the guarnatee's account

When creating or editing a patron account which is under a Child type patron category, there will be a section called Patron gurantor. 

If this section does not appear, it is possible that it has been hidden from the patron form.

For more information on this, please check our Help Centre as there are two different ways this can be completed.

Click +Add guarantor.

This will open a pop up box where the patron account to be linked as a guarantor will appear.

It is possible to search for a patron, limiting by patron category and the library branch the patron is in.

Completing this search will bring up any patrons which match the search.

Click Select on the line the patron account is on.

This will add the searched for patron as a guarantor to the patron account being created or edited, which will be the guarantee.

Click this box and a dropdown menu of the options created in the system preference will appear.

Click the option that should be applied to the relationship being defined. 

Once the guarantor and relationship have been defined, and the other details about the patron being created or edited are resolved, click Save.

Appearance on the guarantor/guarantee account

Once the guarantor/guarantee relationship has been defined, the name and label of the relationship will appear on the guarantee's account.
