How to enable the tagging feature on Koha

How to enable the tagging feature on Koha

Tags are applied to bibliographic records by patrons through the OPAC, to add a review or a description of the title. This document will outline how to enable the tags feature on Koha.

Setting the system preferences

To enable this feature, go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for TagsEnabled.

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

This system preference will enable the overall tags functionality. To enable this feature, set the system preference to Allow patrons and staff to put tags on items and click Save all Enhanced content preferences.

Enabling this system preference will not cause the tagging options to appear immediately. Once this has been enabled, it is necessary to determine which part of the OPAC the tagging feature should appear on. The options are to allow tagging on either the search results of the OPAC, the record details page on the OPAC or both of them.

Enabling tagging on the search results page

To enable the tagging on the search results page on the OPAC, go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search forTagsInputOnList.

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

Set this system preference to Allow patrons to input tags on search results on the OPAC and Click Save all Enhanced content preferences.

Once this system preference has been enabled an Add Tag(s) option will appear on the search results page on the OPAC.

Enabling tags on the record details page

To enable the tagging on the record details on the OPAC, go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for TagsInputOnDetail

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

Set this system preference to Allow patrons to input tags on item detail pages on the OPAC and click the Save all Enhanced content preferences button.

This will cause an Add tag(s) link to appear only on the record details page on the OPAC.

If both system preferences are enabled at the same time, the tag option will appear on both the search results and the record detail page.
For details about how to add tags, please check our Help Centre.
