How to enable self-registration for patrons on the OPAC

This document will outline how to enable the basic self registration form on the OPAC, so that patrons without accounts can apply for accounts to be created.
In addition to the basic set up outlined in this document, there are several other functionalities that can be set to customise the self registration form. For more information on these features, please check our Help Centre.

Find the system preferences

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for PatronSelfRegistration.

This will bring up several system preferences using the searched for phrase.

Self-registration through the OPAC is controlled by the system preference PatronSelfRegistration and is supported by PatronSelfRegistrationDefaultCategory.
  1. PatronSelfRegistration must be set to allow

  2. PatronSelfRegistrationDefaultCategory must be set to a default patron category that will be offered to patrons on the self-registration form. Patrons can choose this default but will also be given a drop down of the other patron categories they can choose from.

Appearance on the OPAC

Once the system preference PatronSelfRegistration has been set to allow and the PatronSelfRegistrationDefaultCategory has been filled in a line will appear under the login box, Register Here:

Clicking the Register here link will bring users to a new page on the library site with the Patron Self Registration Form, which should look something like this:

This is a partial sample of the form and as Koha includes system preferences to add, remove or make fields mandatory, individual forms may vary from site to site.

To complete self-registration the user needs to fill in the form and click Save.
