How to prevent a guarantor from checking out if multiple guarantees owe a certain amount in fines

It is possible to link multiple patron accounts as guarantees to a guarantor's account. If a guarantor has multiple guarantees, it is possible to set up their relationship so if one or more of the guarantees or if all the guarantees cumulatively have over a deifined amount of fines, the guarantor can be prevented from checking items out.

How to set the system preference

Go to Koha administration > Global System Preferences and search for NoIssuesChargeGuarantorsWithGuarantees.

This will bring up a system preference of the same name.

To set this system preference, fill in the maximum amount guarantees can owe before their guarantor will be prevented from checking items out.

For example, to prevent a guarantor from checking out if their guarantees owe more than 10 euro in fines, the system preference should appear as:

If a patron has guaranteed three other patrons, and between them the patrons owe 11 euro, the guarantor patron and the three guarantee patrons will not be able to check items out until the fines have been reduced below 11 euro.

What will happen if a guarantor tries to checkout when their guarantee owes more than the defined amount in fines?

Once this system preference has been set, if a guarantor tries to checkout and their guarantees owe more than the defined amount in fines, this message will appear.

At this point, the staff member can choose to still check the items out to the guarantor by clicking Yes, checkout (Y), or to wait until the fines have been paid down and click No, don't checkout (N)
